Creating a CNAME record for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains that you've got in the hosting account will allow you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain will lose all of its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain name it is being redirected to. In this light, you can't set up a CNAME record to point your domain name to a third-party provider and retain a functional email service with the first provider. Also, it is very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it's generally mistaken for the A record of the domain being forwarded. One of the main uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain address that you own through one company to the servers of another company if you have created a site with the latter. In this way, the website will appear under your own domain, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our cloud hosting plans is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in a couple of simple steps. You will find a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you many opportunities - if you set up a company site on our end, for example, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create an Internet site using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain address, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You are going to be able to set up, modify and delete CNAME records really easy with any one of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are handled using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you will see all records for any domain or subdomain which you have added in your account. To set up a new record, you just need to pick the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type in where it will be forwarded to, choose the record type, which will be CNAME in this case, and you will be ready. In case you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is extremely easy to use, so you'll not have any issues. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article on how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are available in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you can easily use a domain address hosted on our groundbreaking cloud hosting platform for a site created elsewhere, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domain names, plus much more.
